Seattle police Detective John Smith said he’s thankful he spent a few extra minutes at work Monday night.
Heading home in sluggish Interstate 90 traffic, Smith saw a pickup in front of him go airborne then burst into flames. He veered onto the shoulder and ran from his car – heading directly to a crumpled white Ford Thunderbird.
