One of the drivers involved in the initial crash, according to state patrol, stole the officer's personal vehicle and fled the scene.

At this point in the investigation, it appears the officer pulled their vehicle over and got out to check on the drivers involved in the collision. While the officer was outside the vehicle, an additional motorist struck and killed the officer.
