Fatal crash on Highway 2 near Airway Heights
Investigators were on the scene and said the cause of the crash was the speed off the pickup truck was too fast for the conditions.
Sharon Deppner, 74, was killed in a collision involving a semi truck and two vehicles on Highway 2 about five miles west of Airway Heights, Washington at about 8:41 a.m. Two cars were eastbound Highway 2 approaching Deep Creek Road when one of them lost control at the same time that a semi was traveling westbound in the same area. One of the vehicles, a pickup, lost control because of snowy road conditions. The semi driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the vehicle, but hit the pickup and then plummeted down a 100-foot embankment. The pickup driver, Deppner, died in the crash, and the semi driver was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle involved in the collision was not injured.
