Two Grant County men die after car strikes tree

Two Grant County men died Tuesday night when their speeding vehicle hit a tree north of George in central Washington.

Genaro Lopez Corona, 28, of George and Salvador Zepeda, 21, of Quincy were declared dead at the scene of the collision, which happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 1 Northwest. Corona, the driver, lost control of the 1994 Acura Integra as he was driving east and left the roadway, striking the tree, according to a release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Corona was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Zepeda was wearing a seat belt. The Grant County Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit is investigating the incident. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, the news release said.
