The State Patrol said charges are pending against Cortes, but added that intoxicants were not involved in the crash.
It was about 6:00 p.m. when Jose D. Cortes, 34, was driving west on Van Belle Road when he for some reason veered into the oncoming lane. There he collided with a tractor that was towing farm equipment, driven by Clifford R. Van Belle, 77, before crashing into a pickup truck driven by Blake A. Van Belle, 16. Cortes has been hospitalized, though the extent of his injuries are not yet known. No one else was hurt in the accident.
