Toppenish crash sends four to hospitals

A 1995 Honda Accord driven by Meleen Anason, 69, of Prosser, was traveling east on State Route 22 near Division Road when it stopped for traffic backing up around 3:10 p.m., according to a news release issued by the State Patrol.

Four people injured in Toppenish Tuesday afternoon. All drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts. Anason’s car was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Jane G. Hanson, 41, of Toppenish, and pushed into the westbound lanes of the highway, the release said. The Accord was then hit by a 2012 Freightliner driven by Ronald V. De Mers, 73, of Sedro Wooley, the release said. Anason and her passenger, Dean C. Lavachek, 65, of Burien, were taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available. Hanson was taken to Toppenish Community Hospital along with her passenger, Ricky D.
