Man fatally shot by Yakima County deputy after chase

Authorities at the scene initially said the deputy had fired after gunshots came from the car. However, the news release issued later in the evening made no mention of gunfire from the car.
A 27-year-old man was shot to death by a Yakima County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday afternoon following a high-speed chase that ended just west of the Yakima city limits. Shortly before 4:20 p.m., a deputy spotted a green Honda Civic driving east on U.S. Highway 12 that had been reported stolen. When the deputy attempted to pull over the car, it sped off, eventually reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. The Honda turned off the highway onto Ackley Road, and the car left the road, striking a fence. Deputies then approached the car, ordering the driver to turn off the engine, but he continued to rev the motor, and attempted to drive back toward the highway. A deputy, fearing for his safety, fatally shot the 27-year-old driver. Two passengers in the car, a 17-year-old male and 27-year-old woman, were arrested. No names have been released.
