WATCH: Advertising blimp crashes at U.S. Open, passenger parachutes out

A blimp has gone down at Erin Hills, and according to folks who took the video, there was at least one person who parachuted out. The blimp was not affiliated with the U.S Open or the TV broadcast team for Fox.

The blimp, operated by Florida-based AirSign, was used for advertising as it floated above the golf tournament and had been airborne for several hours before it went down, authorities said.

A blimp that crashed Thursday at the U.S. Open golf tournament in Wisconsin was owned and operated by a Williston company that flies advertising banners nationwide — including over Gainesville events such as University of Florida football games.

One social media user said that people parachuted to safety, but a company spokesman said exiting the blimp by parachute is not possible.
