62-year-old woman struck and killed by SUV while trying to cross street in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee woman hit, killed while crossing city street.
A 62-year-old Milwaukee woman was killed Monday morning when she was hit while walking across N. 35th St. near W. Highland Blvd.
The woman ran westbound into traffic around 5:30 a.m. and was hit by a southbound Ford Explorer, Milwaukee police said. The driver, a 53-year-old Milwaukee man, remained at the scene and has not been ticketed.
The Milwaukee County medical examiner's office also responded, and the Milwaukee County district attorney's office will review the investigation, as is typical with fatal crashes.
It is the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian in less than a week. On Thursday, a 6-year-old boy was hit and killed while crossing W. North Ave. on his way to school. The driver in that case remained at the crash scene and was cooperating with police.
In 2013, 30 people — six of them pedestrians — were killed in traffic crashes in Milwaukee, according to city records. In 2012, 11 pedestrians were among the 37 people who were killed in traffic crashes.
