San Diego police were looking Friday for a hit-and-run driver who struck two women on a morning walk in University City. The women were walking along Stresemann Street, near Governor Drive, about 6 a.m. when they passed a parked older-model red pickup, police said. Moments later, the truck struck them from behind and the driver kept going. Paramedics took the women to two hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Police said the pickup might be a Toyota and may have damage to the front.

A 20-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday when he flew off his bike and hit a pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was riding his 2013 Ducati Monster on westbound state Route 94 at 1:44 p.m. when he went to transition onto southbound Interstate 15.

The CHP said the man entered the turn at 60 mph despite a suggested speed of 30 mph. The motorcyclist tried to brake, but as a result the bike went off the road and struck a median.

An SUV carrying two people and two dogs rolled off the right shoulder and down an embankment on Interstate 15 on Wednesday, catching fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car was traveling southbound around 1:10 p.m. near Gopher Canyon Road when somehow it veered off the road.

A husband and wife, both about 50, suffered minor injuries, while the dogs ran out of the car and were loose for nearly two hours before being corralled.

The cause of the accident was still being investigated, but no alcohol was involved.

One person was killed and two others injured in a four-vehicle crash Sunday in the Harborview section of San Diego, authorities said.

The crash at the intersection of Grape Street and Harbor Drive was reported at 7:10 p.m., said the director of marketing communications for the Port of San Diego.

The fatally injured victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the injured patients were taken to a hospital, but their conditions were not immediately available.

A pedestrian suffered a life-threatening injury Tuesday in Pacific Beach after being hit in the head by the side-view mirror of a motor home.

The 47-year-old victim was standing just off the curb in a crosswalk at Ingraham Street at La Playa Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1972 Winnebago, a San Diego police detective said.

The 40-year-old driver was heading south when her brakes failed, and she swerved to the right to avoid the car in front of her. That vehicle had stopped for the pedestrian.

A family escaped injury Tuesday night, when a car slammed into their City Heights apartment building.

The San Diego Police Department said the wreck occurred at 10:15 p.m. at a two-story complex at Menlo Avenue and Olive Street.

The driver stated that his Honda Accord lost power, which resulted in a brake and steering failure.

The man's family was also in the car as it coasted down Olive Street and through Menlo Avenue before crashing into the building.

Traffic was backed up Tuesday night on Interstate 8 east in the Mission Valley area due to a multi-vehicle collision.

One vehicle was on its side, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported about 6:35 p.m. near Mission Center Road.

A family of four was in one of the vehicles, the CHP said. They were able to get out on their own.

Debris was reported to be scattered in several lanes

The southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to Oceanside Boulevard was shut down for several hours after a big rig overturned, according to Caltrans.

The incident was reported shortly before 11 a.m. and does not appear to involve any other vehicles.

The off-ramp was reopened at about 2:15 p.m.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police say two people are in custody Monday morning after slamming a vehicle filled with drugs into a parked car overnight in Logan Heights.

The San Diego Police Department said the wreck occurred at 10:45 p.m. Sunday on the 3800 block of National Avenue.

According to officers, the woman was driving on Logan Avenue when she lost control of her gray Lexus and hit a parked SUV.

Witnesses said that the driver of the SUV came out to help and saw the woman swallowing something and her male passenger hiding things in the car.

A 21-year-old woman was critically injured early Friday after being ejected in a rollover crash on state Route 125 in the East County.

The woman was driving south about 1:20 a.m. near Jamacha Road when for unknown reasons she made an unsafe move to the right and her car struck a light pole, said the California Highway Patrol.

The 2011 Mazda then rolled over and the woman was ejected. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators have not determined what caused the driver to lose control of the car or if drugs or alcohol were involved.
