The fiance of a woman who was killed in a collision on State Route 167 near Puyallup early Tuesday says she was 12 weeks pregnant when she died. Jason Speers said he and his fiancee, 34-year-old Shanna Huttenstine, were in a cab headed home to Tacoma from the hospital when their cab collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup, a 48-year-old Puyallup man, later identified as Anderson Hamilton, was booked into jail for vehicular homicide after the collision.
A 57-year-old man faces charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence after a rollover crash Thursday night, Feb. 27, on Roeder Avenue. The Ford Ranger driven by Thomas Peter Tom had been speeding at 60 mph in a 35 mph zone around 9:40 p.m. on Roeder. The truck crashed and may have rolled multiple times before landing on its side. Tom and a 24-year-old woman in the passenger seat somehow escaped with just scrapes and bruises. Police suspect Tom was intoxicated. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital as a precaution and to have his blood drawn.
Police arrested two drivers involved in a high-speed DUI crash when an Acura driven by a 29-year-old Bellevue resident was speeding on Northeast 148th. Bellevue Police believe he was driving up to 70 mph, well above the posted speed limit of 40 mph. At the same time a Ford Taurus, driven by a 57-year-old man with a passenger, attempted to make a left hand turn into the Bellevue Highlands Condominiums. The two vehicles crashed into each other.
Donald Jeffries, 50, of Goshen was traveling east on Highway 36 around 11:30 a.m. when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Stephen Wise. Jeffries, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by ambulance to the Carroll County Memorial Hospital. Wise, 35, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital. Nicole Wise, a 34 year-old passenger traveling with Stephen Wise was transported by helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital. A juvenile passenger in Wise’s vehicle was flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
