A Missouri man was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision with a semi in southeast Kansas.

Ryan Dustin Summers, 29, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., died after his pickup slammed into a semi shortly after 9 a.m. about 8 miles south of Cherryvale on U.S. 169, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol accident report.

Summers was driving his 2006 GMC Sierra south when it veered over the center line, side-swiped a dump truck, continued on and struck the semi head-on, the report said.

Summers died at the scene. No one was injured in the other vehicles, the report said.

Authorities say a 68-year-old woman died after she was hit and run over by a van in the driveway of her North Port home.

According to police, Judith Ann Jellema has parked her Nissan Quest in the driveway about 6 p.m. Wednesday. A short time later she asked her 13-year-old granddaughter to move the van because it wasn't parked straight.

The Sarasota News Herald reports Jellema was standing next to the opened driver's door when the teen backed up the vehicle. Jellema was knocked to the ground.

A teenager injured in a wreck Wednesday night is in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital, officials said this morning.

Hospital officials said David “Bubba” Smith, 17, Tuscumbia, is in the facility’s surgical intensive care unit.

State troopers said Smith was injured in a one-car accident that happened on Woodmont Drive, at the base of Colbert Heights Mountain.

Smith was flown from the scene by Air- Evac.

The accident was reported at 8:15 p.m.

Troopers said Smith was driving a 2003 Pontiac that left the roadway and crashed.

A one-car accident in Red Hook Wednesday night has taken the life of a Kingston woman, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain John Watterson said the accident took place on Route 9G near Kidd Lane in the Town of Red Hook at approximately 11:15 p.m. The driver and sole occupant, who was identified as Amanda Timbrouck, 30, of Kingston, was pronounced dead at the scene..

A woman has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a driver Wednesday morning.

The woman was riding her bike at 12th Avenue and Bannock Street when a man driving a car went around a vehicle that was stopped at a light and hit her in the bike lane.

The driver, who police identified as Dale Campbell, 52, allegedly kept going but a witness followed him and was able to identify him for police a few blocks away.

Campbell was taken into custody and is being held for investigation of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

A driver was killed after crashing into an 18-wheeler Wednesday morning.

Investigators said the driver of the 18-wheeler was driving on Farrell Road near East Hardy Road in Northeast Harris County around 1 a.m.

According to investigators, the truck driver started slowing down to turn off of the feeder road. A man that was driving an SUV behind the 18-wheeler couldn't stop in time and crashed into the back of the truck.

The driver in the SUV died on the scene.

Eighty riders – more than half of those in the men’s professional division racing in the multi-stage Tour of the Gila – were involved in a crash Wednesday that resulted in dozens of injuries and at least one man being airlifted to a Tucson hospital.

Participants said it was unlike any crash they’d ever witnessed.

Jack Brennan, the race’s director, said about 150 riders comprising the men’s professional division set off from Silver City just after 9 a.m. Wednesday to begin the tour’s first 90-mile leg to Mogollon.

An early morning crash on I-77 southbound caused by a wrong-way driver claimed a life and closed a large section of the Interstate for hours Wednesday. Police said a driver entered the freeway, possibly from Fleet Avenue, going the wrong way and collided with another vehicle. Jack W. Dixon, age 48 and of Eastlake was driving the car that was struck and was pronounced dead on the scene, Cleveland Police said.

Police say 28 New Jersey students have been taken to a hospital as a precaution after their school bus was involved in a minor crash. North Brunswick Police Lt. Gina Braconi says the accident happened on Route 130 around 8 a.m. Wednesday. She says that all 28 students on board were taken for checkups after some complained of pain. None have injuries that are considered life-threatening. Braconi says the students were from North Brunswick but she's not sure which school.
