A man was critically hurt in a wreck on East End Avenue early Friday, and police spent several hours trying to determine whether a second person was involved.
The Acura that was involved had been going east on East End Avenue at high speed when it crossed the center line and went off the north side of the road, crashed into trees, broke apart and burned, police said.
Police said they were called shortly after 3 a.m. to the crash site At East End and Rowena avenues.
Emergency personnel found the driver nearby.
A 22-year-old man died early Friday morning after he drove away from police during a traffic stop and then slammed into trees and a parked car in southeast Houston, officials said.
The incident occurred about 12:05 a.m. in the 7600 block of Moline near Poplar, according to the Houston Police Department.

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. under the Highway 590 overpass, near Jones Community College in Ellisville.

Four people are dead following a crash in Plant City.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 31-year-old Rolando Silva lost control of his 2006 BMW early Friday morning and crashed head-on into a Cadillac driven by 26-year-old Joseph Vizcarrondo.
Troopers say that Silva, Vizcarrondo and two passengers in the Cadillac died at the scene. Nineteen-year-old Lauren Phillips was one of the passengers. The other passenger was later identified as Jenna Dawn Kelly, 25.
Four people were injured in a collision late Friday night on Highway 12 in Rochester. The two-car collision occurred about 8:42 p.m. at milepost 43. The driver of a red Chevrolet pickup truck attempted to pass a silver GMC Yukon, and ended up striking the vehicle. The road was closed for four hours as troopers investigated the scene. The truck’s two occupants were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The truck’s driver, a 22-year-old Centralia man, was arrested on charges of DUI and vehicular assault after troopers observed signs of alcohol impairment.
A Ridgefield woman died in a single-vehicle crash late Friday night. Ridgefield police officers were called to the 500 block of South 45th Avenue about 11:30 p.m. to a reported crash. A 2012 Honda van that was traveling north the road left the roadway and rolled several times into a grassy field, according to police. The driver and car’s only occupant, Jenee D. Phillips, 34, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, police said, but he said the rainy weather may have also contributed.
