A teenage boy was killed and a teenage girl was critically injured after they were hit by a freight train while walking to a high school dance in Northern California Friday evening, authorities said. The accident happened near Marysville's only high school and a little league park where a game was being played, CalFire Capt. Dennis Hunt said. The boy, later identified as Mateus Gabriel Moore, 16, died at the scene and the girl, later identified as Mickayla Friend, was airlifted to hospital with traumatic injuries, Hunt said.

Several students were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries early Wednesday after a wreck involving a school bus near McGee's Crossroads Elementary School in Johnston County, State Highway Patrol officials said. Forty-eight students were on the bus at the time of the wreck, which happened at about 8:15 a.m. near the intersection of Greenleaf Road and N.C. Highway 50.

A Framingham town employee is currently being held without bail after police say he tried to kill two children by crashing his car into a pole. Prosecutors say Peter Curtis, 32, of Medway, picked up his 10-year-old niece and 15-year-old nephew at their home on Monday to give them a ride to their mother’s workplace. According to the police report, Curtis, who works for the Framingham Parks and Recreation Department, warned the children just before he crashed. “Buckle up, we’re going on a death run,” prosecutors claim Curtis said.

An 8-year-old New Haven girl is in the pediatric emergency department at Yale-New Haven Hospital after being struck in a hit-and-run this morning. Police said the girl was struck by a white van at Ferry and Pine streets just before 7:30 a.m. Neighbors ran to held and the driver fled the scene. The girl was running into a daycare when she was struck, according to a man who said he knows the victim. Hector Rivera said the girl had run across the street to ask a bus driver if that was her bus. When the bus driver said no, the girl started running back to the daycare and was struck.

Two teenage sisters were injured after a driver struck them early Tuesday morning. A Tampa Police spokesperson says Norma Velasquez-Cabrera, 15, and Victoria Velasquez-Cabrera, 14, just left their apartment in the Meridian Pointe complex and were walking to Middleton High School. As they tried to cross East Hillsborough Avenue, they were hit by a car at 7:15 a.m. Norma is critically injured, Davis said. Their mother rushed to the hospital to be with them.

A 7-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was hit by a car in Central Minnesota on Monday morning. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 21900 block of County Road 7 in St. Augusta around 7:26 a.m. Monday on a report of a crash. According to the sheriff, the boy was crossing the street to get onto a school bus when he was hit by a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 60-year-old Margaret Hartnick of St. Augusta. The school bus was southbound on County Road 7 and was picking up three kids at that address, and the Pontiac was heading northbound.

A Marysville child was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after a one-car collision on Highway 530 near Darrington Saturday morning. The girl, 2, was listed in stable condition Saturday afternoon. A Marysville man, 27, also was injured. He was treated and released from Cascade Valley Hospital. The Washington State Patrol said the man was driving a Honda Civic eastbound when he rolled the car. It ran into a private driveway before landing in a ditch.

Eleven students on the bus were transported to Jewish Hospital South and released after a wreck that occured at about 6:30 a.m. at Preston Highway and Belmont Road just east of Fort Knox. An 86-year-old man drove into the back of a school bus that had stop to pick up students in Bullitt County. The man later died of his injuries. None of the students suffered serious injuries.

Two children were taken to the hospital Friday after a wreck involving a sport-utility vehicle and a school bus in Greenacres. The crash happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Lake Worth Road and 57th Avenue. All roads are back open after earlier closures. One child, who was in the SUV, was taken to Delray Community Hospital by Trauma Hawk for precautionary reasons, according to Lt. Brady Myers with the Greenacres Department of Safety. A second child, who was on the school bus, was taken to Palms West Hospital. Neither child had life-threatening injuries, said Myers.

An 8-year-old girl was hit by an unlicensed driver near Horrall Elementary School in San Mateo Friday morning, according to police. The driver, a 38-year-old San Mateo resident, struck the girl with a gold Toyota Corolla in the 900 block of Ocean View Avenue at about 7:40 a.m. The girl was alert and talking when she was taken to a hospital and her injuries were not considered life threatening, police said. The driver was cited for driving without a license and released. Drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the collision.
