A 72-year-old driver trying to avoid a crash in bad weather has died after his car collided with a charter bus on U.S. 131 in western Michigan. The victim was identified as David Yettaw of Portage, near Kalamazoo. State police say there were no injuries among the two dozen people aboard the bus. The crash occurred in Wayland Springs Township in Allegan County. Sgt. David Caswell says the weather was terrible at the time, with blowing snow making driving a risky venture. He says it was one of many wrecks on U.S. 131 between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

Police say a driver is dead and a passenger injured after a car collided with a state Transportation Department snowplow in Newburgh. Police say the driver of a car lost control on a slippery hill on Western Avenue at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. It was snowing at the time. Trooper Douglas Franklin the car crossed the center line and struck the plow, despite efforts by the plow driver to move out of the way. The driver of the car was identified as 24-year-old Anthony Takacs. A female passenger suffered minor injuries. The plow driver was unhurt. The crash remains under investigation.

Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries following a car crash on Trout Brook Drive in West Hartford that severely damaged both cars involved, according to police. Police said 18-year-old Nhi Phan was driving southbound on Trout Brook Drive in the area of Fern Street around 10:40 Wednesday morning when she lost control of her vehicle, which slid into the northbound lane and struck a car driven by Erik Beard, 41.

An Indiana State Police trooper was involved in a crash on the city’s northwest side on Tuesday morning. According to police, the trooper was investigating several slide offs in the area of Interstate 865 at the 4 mile marker. A semi approaching the scene lost control, and the trailer swung around, striking the trooper’s car. Dispatchers say the trooper was inside of the car at the time of the crash. Officials say the trooper was alert and conscious at the scene. He was complaining of neck and back pain.

Six Hartford Union High School students were injured Monday when a school bus left a snow-covered road and crashed into a tree, according to City of Hartford Fire and Rescue. The students were being driven home when the crash was reported about 4 p.m. on Valley Road in Dodge County, according to a news release. According to the release, roads were snow-covered and slippery, and the bus driver reported near whiteout conditions at the time of the crash. The injured students, among 10 students on board the bus, were taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The Belmont Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident. The wreck occurred at 9:27 a.m. on Interstate-85 North near the Exit 27 off ramp, according to the news release from the Belmont Police Department. The incident occurred when a tractor trailer ran into the back of a pickup truck that had slowed down due to weather related traffic conditions. Gilbert Lazarus Carmona, 28, of Rutherfordton, died in the crash, police say. The investigation is ongoing. It has not yet been determined if charges will be filed against the driver of the tractor trailer.

A man faces misdemeanor charges after a passenger died in a head-on crash on a snowy Chatham County road Wednesday. Miguel Arquimides Caseres, 45, of Siler City, was charged following a crash around 1:15 p.m. on Silk Road near Romine Pike Road. Caseres was driving a 1996 Ford car on a snow-covered road when it crossed the center line and crashed into a 1999 Chevrolet, troopers said. The passenger in the Chevrolet died. The passenger's name hasn't been released pending notification of next-of-kin. Caseres also was charged with exceeding a safe speed.

One person was killed, another hospitalized following a single vehicle accident in north St. Louis City. Authorities say a teen driver was reportedly joy riding when he lost control on ice and crashed at North Euclid and Calvin Avenues at approximately 3:30 p.m. Witnesses at the scene said the driver was traveling at a high-rate of speed before he lost control and struck the tree. The 15-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The male teenage passenger was rushed to the hospital in critical, unstable condition.

A rollover accident has cleared and all inbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway at Weslayan have reopened. The accident was reported around 2:10 p.m. Monday. Emergency crews had blocked three left lanes, but all lanes reopened at 2:45 p.m.

A 13-year-old Circleville boy died in a crash on icy roads in Pickaway County early yesterday. Zachary Manns was a passenger in his mother’s car when it slid on icy roads at 8:08 a.m. on a curve on Stoutsville Pike in Washington Township, east of Circleville. His mother, 36-year-old Kristy Stone, was driving eastbound when the car slid and she went left of center, said the commander of the Circleville Post of the State Highway Patrol. Stone’s Grand Prix was hit by a westbound Geo Tracker driven by F.D. Easterday, 75, of Stoutsville.
