Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a small plane to crash in Mohave County, killing two brothers on board. Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said the pilot, Daulton Rey Whatcott, 19, was flying with his brother, Jaxon McKee Whatcott, 16, from Bountiful, UT to Mesquite, NV. The 1969 Cessna 172k fixed-wing single engine went down about 150 feet south of Interstate 15 in Littlefield, near the Utah border about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputies confirmed the brothers did not survive the crash. They're from Clinton City, UT. No one else was onboard.

Three people are dead and four others in critical condition after a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver and involving a family in a van on southbound Interstate 17 Friday morning, said an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was among three adults injured and flown to John C. Lincoln-North Mountain Hospital in Phoenix, said Raul Garcia of DPS. An injured child was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital, he said. The wrong-way driver has not been named however police said they would recommend vehicular homicide charges to prosecutors.

Six teenagers were in critical condition following a three-car chain reaction crash on U.S. 60 at Gilbert Road Thursday afternoon, Mesa fire officials said. All the teens were in a vehicle that was stalled in the emergency lane when it was hit from behind by a van, fire authorities said. One other vehicle was involved in the smash-ups. The half dozen injured patients are between the ages of 17 and 19, according to first responders. The full extent of their injuries was not known.

Two girls were taken to the hospital after they were injured Saturday evening in an ATV accident, police say. A 12-year-old, later identified as Stephanie Quinonez, and 16-year-old, later identified as Shiely Quinonez, were riding an ATV near 36th and Minnezona avenues, said Sgt. Steve Martos, spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department. The girls were trying to take a photo when the ATV they were riding on collided with a parked vehicle, Martos said.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is looking for a white sedan that fled an accident where an 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck and injured Thursday evening. The boy, who was wearing a helmet and was in a marked crosswalk on the northwest side, was in serious but stable condition at University of Arizona Medical Center, said a Northwest Fire District spokesman. The boy's injuries are non-life threatening. "His injuries were reduced because he was wearing a helmet, and that helped save his life," the fire dept. said.

A Glendale police officer and a child were each taken to a hospital after the car the child was riding in collided with the Glendale officer’s car Tuesday morning, according to Glendale police. The officer was responding to another collision on Tuesday near 51st and Northern avenues when the wreck occurred, said a Glendale police spokeswoman. Glendale officers were in the area directing traffic to avoid a collision that had occurred early Tuesday morning when a Jeep SUV was trying to turn northbound from a private drive on to 51st Avenue at about 7:45 a.m., police said.

Three people, including a 36-month-old child, were transported to a hospital after a head-on collision in north Phoenix on Wednesday, according to Phoenix fire officials. Phoenix police received the call for the head-on collision between two vehicles near Dynamite Boulevard and Pyramid Peak Parkway just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman.

An El Mirage woman accused of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident had her 7-year-old son in the vehicle when she was arrested early Saturday morning, police said. Tiffany Pemberton, 31, of El Mirage, faces several charges, including aggravated DUI, aggravated assault, endangerment and hit-and-run with injuries. The hit-and-run accident occurred just after midnight Saturday in the area of 107th and Olive avenues. The two occupants of the other vehicle were injured but are expected to be OK. Pemberton fled the scene and half-a-mile later, ran out of gas.

A 7-year-old Mesa girl was hospitalized with severe head injuries after the all-terrain vehicle she was driving crashed into a block wall Sunday afternoon. Mesa police said the crash happened about 3:40 p.m. in the area of Broadway Road and Longmore. The girl was not wearing a helmet while on the ATV, which was built for a child, said a Mesa Fire Department spokesman said. Officials said the girl was being taught by her father to ride the ATV. The girl was taken to Maricopa Medical Center for treatment and reported in stable condition, according to police.

A crash involving two school buses in San Tan Valley sent four students to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A Pina County Sheriff's Office spokesman said the crash happened about 8:45 a.m. as schools opened after the long holiday break. Medical personnel treated six of the seven passengers on the two buses, the spokesman said. The crash was at Denim Trail and Azalea Drive, the spokesman said.
