A crash sent a Volusia County deputy and another driver to the hospital after the deputy ran a stop sign, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the crash happened before 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Indian Lake Road and Old DeLand Road, causing the intersection to be blocked.

According to troopers, Deputy Amy Edgecomb, 25, was traveling westbound on Old DeLand Road in her patrol cruiser as Debra Rubin, 45, traveled northbound on Indian Lake Road in her 1995 Chevy SUV.

A driver was taken to the hospital after his red Mercedes crashed along Village Boulevard early Friday morning.

Investigators said the man's vehicle went through a guardrail, over a canal and then about 50 more yards before landing on its top near Cumberland Drive.

The driver was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in critical condition.

At 5:30 a.m., the northbound lanes of Village Boulevard were closed.

A Hillsborough county woman is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run traffic crash at 14603 Sydney Road in Dover Friday morning. 40-year-old Stacey Parkensen was found lying next to the road and transported to a local hospital. The vehicle involved had left the scene of the accident according to Hillsborough County detectives. HCSO located a front grill that is believed to be part of the suspect's vehicle that was knocked off at impact with Parkenson.

A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a car hit her near Seminole High School.

It happened in the 8400 block of 131st Street around 4:30 p.m. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Leah Martin tried to cross the road at a marked pedestrian crosswalk, and entered the path of a car. The car hit Martin, and she was pinned underneath it.

Martin was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries.

Three people were taken to area hospitals after they were hurt in a Wellington crash involving multiple vehicles this afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. at Southshore Boulevard and Pierson Road, said a spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

Crews arriving at the scene found four cars involved with multiple injures. Two people were taken to Palms West Medical Center and one was taken to Wellington Regional Medical Center.

Police on Thursday released the identities of the driver and pedestrian involved in a Wednesday morning crash on in downtown Miami.

Officials said 50-year-old Christopher Lyons was behind the wheel of a white Porsche SUV that struck 46-year-old Evangelo Christos Belekis on Biscayne Boulevard and 14th Street.

Authorities say Lyons remained at the scene of the crash. Belekis was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center where he remains in critical condition.

No further details were immediately available as the crash remains under investigation.

A Wellington woman has been arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Deputies say that just before 11 p.m. Thursday night they were called to Summit Blvd and Congress Ave about a possible DUI driver. Investigators say that they found Jennifer Sorgie sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven with the engine still on. Deputies say that her Dodge Durango had extensive front end damage and a blown out tire.

One person was hurt after a head-on crash early Wednesday morning near Port Mayaca. At 6:30am rescue crews responded to the 14977 block area of US 441 for reports of a sugarcane truck accident. First-arriving crews found heavy damage to both vehicles, according to Cpt. Albert Borroto with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. A man was taken to Lakeside Medical in Belle Glade for treatment.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out the cause of a crash that killed a 20-year-old man in Northwest Jacksonville early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a crash on Fifth Avenue near Soutel Drive about 1:45 a.m.

Police said Yancey Hairston was driving northeast on Belvedere Street and tried to make a left turn onto Fifth Avenue. Police said he failed to negotiate the turn, and the front of the car struck a culvert in a ditch and overturned.

A 65-year-old man is in critical condition after being hurt this afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in suburban West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Victor Aponte, of West Palm Beach, was driving in the area of Meathe Drive and Jog Road when his Toyota collided a with a Cherolet Express van shortly after 3 p.m. He was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Medical.

Martha Aponte, 60, was a passenger in the Toyota and she was taken to St. Mary’s with minor injuries. The driver of the van was identified as Robert Rivera, 64, of Port St. Lucie.
