A jackknifed semi at the Interstate 405 split north of the Rose Quarter shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 for several hours Tuesday morning.
The semi was removed at about 8 a.m., and the lanes were reopened by 8:30. Traffic was still stopped or slow all the way back the Marine Drive.
A spokesman said de-icing trucks had prepped the area overnight and he did not think weather was a factor in the 4:30 a.m. crash.
Oregon State Police are investigating a crash that took the life of a 26-year-old Veneta woman early Monday.
According the Oregon State Police, officers responded at 7:16 a.m. Monday to reports that a southbound four-door Saturn was attempting to turn east from Ellmaker Road onto U.S. 126W when it was struck in the driver’s door by a 2005 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer rig pulling two trailers. The truck pushed the car across the highway and into a ditch on the south side of U.S. 126W.

A woman was killed in a head-on crash in Southwest Portland Monday, police said. The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Southwest Miles Street. Witnesses said the car caught fire after it collided head-on with a Portland Water Bureau truck. A Good Samaritan tried to pull the crash victim out of her burning car, but could not save her, authorities said. Police said the victim died at the scene, but they have not yet released her name. Firefighters were able to douse the flames as they spread along the nearby hillside.
Deputies said speed and “using a mobile device” were factors that caused a woman to crash into a trailer full of fresh cut Christmas trees Sunday morning in Estacada.
Around 8 a.m., 22-year-old Danielle Battles of Estacada rear ended the trailer near South Springwater Road and South Eaden Road, said Mark Nikolai with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Battles was severely injured and taken by Life Flight to Oregon Health & Science University where she was listed in critical condition.
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Lake Oswego High School students went back to class Monday with grief counselors and staff on hand to help after a car crash Friday sent several of their classmates to the hospital.
Two of the three girls involved in the crash were still at Oregon Health & Science University Monday afternoon. The 17-year-old girl was in critical condition, her friend, the 16-year-old driver, was in fair condition.
Lake Oswego police were still investigating how the crash happened, and said it could be a few more weeks until the accident report is finalized.
