A Citrus Heights man died Thursday night after the vehicle he was driving struck and seriously injured two pedestrians in Carmichael.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 29-year-old Robert J. Belcher, 29.

The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Winding Way at Manzanita Avenue. A California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said Belcher was driving a silver 1995 Saturn westbound on Winding Way west of Manzanita and was traveling in excess of the posted 40 mph speed limit. At the same time, two 29-year-old women, one from Carmichael and the other from Fair Oaks, were on foot headed eastbound in the crosswalk.

Dutton said Belcher made an unsafe turning movement to the right, hit the concrete sidewalk and struck both women, then struck a wooden utility pole.

Dutton said Belcher had to be extricated from his vehicle.

All three people were taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where Belcher died of his injuries.

Dutton said the women suffered broken bones, but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
