Two killed in accident.

A 53-year-old Iva woman and her 11-month-old granddaughter were killed in a wreck Wednesday afternoon, according to Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley.

Gay James was driving on Highway 184 West, headed to Dixie High School to pick up two more of her grandchildren, when she lost control of her car, over-corrected and went off roadway and struck a tree. James, who was wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner said.

Her granddaughter, Charlie Beasley, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical condition were she later died. The coroner stated that the child was in a car seat and was properly restrained.
