Man dead after shootout, police chase in Blount Co.
Sheriff Arrington said the chase exceeded 90 mph and the suspect wrecked on Highway 278 near Highway 79 in the Brooksville community, where he continued to fire at officers and officers returned fire.
"Pursuit continued eastbound on 278 to a point that is behind us where the suspect’s vehicle crashed. At that time, law enforcement exited their vehicles, the suspect did fire at law enforcement again, law enforcement did return fire in fear for their life and the subject was killed at the scene," state trooper Chuck Daniel said.

A chain of events Tuesday morning spanned two counties and left one man dead after a pursuit and a shootout with law enforcement. That man has been identified as Daniel Blackmon, 38, of Guntersville.
