Nathan Smitherman, 16, died after he struck a tree on the side of Alabama Highway 5 at 12:30 a.m. He was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger, said Alabama State Troopers spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett.

A teenager from Brent was killed in a vehicle crash early Thursday.
Nathan Smitherman, 16, died after he struck a tree on the side of Alabama Highway 5 at 12:30 a.m. He was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger, said Alabama State Troopers spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett.
Troopers are investigating the circumstances of the crash, he said.
