King says the crash occurred on County Road 231 near Eutaw at 5:30 p.m. The nine survivors were transported to the Green County Hospital in Eutaw, DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, DCH in Northport and Children's of Alabama in Birmingham. Trooper Kind says the deceased were 3, 22, and 30 years old. No arrests have been made.

Authorities transported Hutton and Pippen to Greene County Hospital where they were pronounced dead. King says the crash occurred on County Road 231 near Eutaw at 5:30 p.m. Troopers say a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by 22-year-old Maurice Devonte Wedgeworth, also of Eutaw, struck the victims during a street race with a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The other driver was taken into custody in Huntsville and is being transported back to Greene County.

Troopers say a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by Wedgeworth, struck the victims during a street race with a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Reginal King said in an email Monday that charges hadn’t been filed against 22-year-old Maurice Wedgeworth in the crash from Saturday. Wedgeworth’s relatives said Monday that street races aren’t uncommon in rural Greene County and the unemployed father of four may have been hoping to win some money. Wedgeworth surrendered to authorities at a hospital and Lawson was taken into custody miles away in Huntsville.

Manslaughter charges filed against street racers after car plows into bystanders, killing 3

Griggers told AL.com Monday the "reckless act of street racing" led to the manslaughter warrants issued by his office. "It's just so tragic,'' said Greene County District Attorney Greg Griggers. He is being held at the Greene County Jail pending the ongoing investigation, King said. A new law went into effect in June that not only increased the punishment for those arrested for street racing, but also made it a crime to watch. Hutton and Jhayden were taken to Greene County Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

After leaving the road to the right, the Cutlass struck the crowd of bystanders. According to the crash report, both cars were traveling east on County Road 231 while a crowd of people were gathered on the side of the road to watch the race. Lawson, behind the wheel of the Monte Carlo, struck Wedgeworth in the Cutlass on the passenger's side, causing the Cutlass to lose control. Hutton and Jhayden were taken to Greene County Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Wedgeworth was taken into custody just before midnight Saturday when he turned himself in to troopers at a hospital.

Drag racing is both a way to make money and a source of entertainment in Alabama's rural counties. "This is certainly not the first occurrence of drag racing in rural Alabama. Singleton and McCampbell co-sponsored a bill last year that increased the penalties for drag racing. Three people were killed in the Dec. 27 accident on Greene County Road 231 in Eutaw.
