A Hoover woman was killed early Friday when she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 20/59 near McCalla.
A Hoover woman was killed early Friday when she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 20/59 near McCalla. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Celyce Olivia Thompson, 24. She was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash happened at 1:29 a.m. near Rock Mountain Lakes. Authorities said Thompson was driving her PT Cruiser northbound in the interstate's southbound lanes. Witness said she was in the far left emergency lane on the northbound side when it appeared she tried to cross all lanes of traffic to exit the interstate via an entrance ramp. Instead, she collided with an 18-wheeler. The driver of the truck wasn't injured. The crash shut down a portion of the interstate and traffic was diverted. The roadway was reopened by 6:45 a.m.
