Mountain Brook police Chief Ted Cook said the crash was a head-on collision on 280 near Rocky Ridge Road. One man was taken into custody at the scene, the chief said. He declined to release details on the man's detention, saying only he was taken into custody for further investigation.

Man charged with manslaughter in Mountain Brook crash that killed unborn baby
Mountain Brook police Chief Ted Cook today announced charges against Irwin Francisco-Bartolo, 21. He was traveling westbound on U.S.280 in a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer that crossed the median and struck Horton's Toyota Camry head-on. The chief said the suspect told them he was going about about 60 to 65 mph.
Horton was extricated from the vehicle and taken to UAB Hospital. Cook said she was 33 weeks pregnant, and the unborn baby died as a result of the wreck. "Officers on the scene determined that Francisco-Bartolo was under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest,'' Cook said.
