Single-vehicle wreck in Coffee Co. leaves 1 dead

A single-vehicle wreck on Sunday at 2 a.m. in Coffee County claimed the life of a Brantley teenager, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash occurred on Alabama Hwy. 87 four miles north of Zion Chapel.

Arrest made in weekend crash that killed Brantley teen

John Carlton Gray, 18, of Brantley, was taken into custody late Sunday and transported to the Coffee County Jail where he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death. 
The single-vehicle accident occurred Sunday at 2 a.m. in Coffee County. Griffin Carter Jones, 18, was killed when the 2010 Dodge Charger he was driving left the roadway, hit two utility poles and multiple trees then caught fire. Jones was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the accident site, on Alabama Highway 87.
