Vestavia Hills cyclist dies after car crash in Gulf State Park, wife remains hospitalized
A Vestavia Hills man, struck by a car with his wife while they rode bicycles in Gulf State Park Wednesday, has died of his injuries. On Thursday morning, his wife remained in intensive care, Florida hospital officials said.
John Richard Vos and his wife Augusta Forbes Vos were riding bicycles in Gulf State Park when they were struck by a car. They were both taken to hospitals for treatment. John died at Baptist Hospital in Florida. Augusta underwent surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital and is expected to recover. They were struck by a mustang driven by 21-year-old Blake Ashton Foote who remained at the scene. Authorities believe fatigue may have been a factor in the crash.
