Glendale man killed by hit-and-run driver

Detectives with the Glendale Police Vehicular Crimes Unit are seeking the community's help in locating the driver and the vehicle which they believe to be a 1996 to 1999 Chevy Tahoe. Investigators have released a surveillance photo of the white 4-door SUV with tinted windows and custom rims and tires that they're attempting to locate. Investigators believe the SUV has noticeable damage to the front end from the front to the passenger's side of the vehicle.

A suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash was apparently more interested in the damage sustained to his vehicle than the well-being of the victim whom he abandoned, according to a Glendale police report.

The Glendale Police Department is asking for your help to nab the driver.

Pete Rivas, 62, was walking in an unmarked crosswalk in the 6000 block of W. Bethany Home Road around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, when he was hit by a white SUV, said police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden.

The driver abandoned the gravely injured Rivas and drove to a nearby Circle K near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, Breeden said.

The motorist inspected his SUV and then fled south on 59th Avenue with a male passenger.

Rivas was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Glendale Fire Department and rushed to a local Valley hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver is described as black, about 30 years old with a muscular build and short hair that is possibly braided.
