Lonnie R. Litzner arrested on multiple charges after police chase leads to several crashes in Maricopa County.
Gilbert man arrested in Apache Junction after Mesa crash.
Mesa police said a man accused of driving under the influence tried to plow his vehicle into an officer during an hour-long chase in which he blew through several traffic signals and drove into oncoming traffic, officials said.
Lonnie R. Litzner, 42, of Gilbert, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of aggravated DUI, aggravated assault on law enforcement, endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to police records filed in San Tan Justice Court.
Police said Litzner ignored an officer’s attempt to stop him at about 9:30 p.m. in Mesa. During the pursuit, police said Litzner ran several red lights and drove into oncoming traffic. At one point, he was reported to be driving in excess of 25 miles above the posted 45 mph limit, according to court records.
Police lost track of Litzner for approximately 35 minutes but found him again when he ran a red light and struck a vehicle at Southern Avenue and Power Road before driving away, records show.
Some time later, Litzner tried to drive his car into a marked police vehicle, but the officer avoided collision, authorities said.
Police eventually stopped Litzner in Apache Junction and used a stun gun to subdue him when he resisted arrest, records show.
A routine records search showed Litzner had been driving without a license at the time of his arrest, police said.
