Court records show Jimenez has two DUI convictions from 2002 and 2008. Anyone convicted of DUI who subsequently kills someone while driving under the influence can be charged with second-degree murder and faces a sentence of 15 years to life if convicted.
Authorities believe Jimenez was driving a Chevy pickup west on Sunset Boulevard at 6 p.m. Wednesday when he turned left into the path of a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, 57-year-old Danny Darnell Cottengim, was thrown from the vehicle. Jimenez and his wife were uninjured. Jimenez was arrested after officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol.
