On his way home, Balbuena reportedly tried to make a turn too late at Conner Street and Tyler Avenue and ended up turning onto the shoulder of the street, where he hit a fence and ran into a crowd of 10 children and adults buying ice cream, the California Highway Patrol reports.
At about 6:00pm, a man hit a group of three children and pinned them up against an ice cream truck, killing a 3-year-old girl and injuring the other two children, who sustained non-life threatening injuries. The man did not stop to render aid and left the scene, but was found hiding not too far away shortly after and arrested.
