CHP Cruiser Bursts Into Flames in Hit-and-Run

A California Highway Patrol cruiser burst into flames after being struck in a hit-and-run in El Monte early Saturday.
A California Highway Patrol officer was assisting with a prior accident when a minivan and a sedan collided into each other on the 10 Freeway at approximately 2 AM Saturday. The minivan veered to right, slamming into the cruiser which was parked on the shoulder before rolling over and coming to a stop. The cruiser subsequently burst into flames, however nobody was inside the vehicle at the time and CHP officer was uninjured. Firefighters helped extricate the driver of the crashed minivan, who was sent to USC Medical Center for treatment to moderate injuries. The driver of the sedan, however, fled from the accident. The incident is under investigation as a hit-and run accident. We will have more details on this story as new information becomes available.
