MONTEREY COUNTY -- A 49-year-old man who made an unsafe U-turn was struck and killed by another vehicle on U.S. Highway 101 south of Salinas Monday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. A Ford Explorer traveling north toward Abbott Street broadsided the driver's side of the Honda, Loza said. Shortly before 7:30 a.m., the man was driving a Honda Civic on southbound Highway 101 approaching Hartnell Road, where a witness saw him make a wide U-turn to head northbound, CHP Officer Oscar Loza said. The Honda was found with major intrusion on the driver's side and the man was found in the front passenger seat, according to Loza. A 49-year-old Seaside woman driving the Ford with her 17-year-old son were not injured but were taken to Natividad Medical Center as a precaution, the spokesman said.
