Santa Cruz father of 11 killed in hit-and-run on his way to work

Lainez was a quiet man who worked to support his children as they grew up, Sonia Lainez said. "He did everything for us -- worked hard, seeing if we needed something," she said. 
Jose Adan Lainez, 63, was riding his bicycle east on Soquel Avenue near Hagemann Avenue in Santa Cruz at 6:40 a.m. Friday when he was struck from behind by what investigators suspect is a 2007 white Toyota Tundra. The Toyota also sheared a traffic light pole, sending it into a nearby parking lot before driving away. Police say the pickup most likely has damage on its right front and right side, and surveillance footage from area businesses show a white truck speeding away from the scene, but police have not found an image clear enough to show the driver or the pickup's license plate.
