Capitola man injured in Highway 152 crash.
A 77-year-old Capitola man was severely injured in a crash on Highway 152 outside Watsonville on Tuesday.
About 1:30 p.m., the man was driving a black 2014 Chevrolet Silverado west on Highway 152 about 1 mile east of Red Hawk Place, said California Highway Patrol officer Brad Sadek.
Authorities are not sure what caused the crash, but the driver hit a tree and heavy brush, stopping about 10 feet from the road, Sadek said.
No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.
American Medical Response paramedics transported the man to a helicopter landing zone where he was flown to a Santa Clara County hospital. He was in critical condition Wednesday morning, authorities said.
As authorities responded to the wreck, Highway 152 was narrowed to one lane of traffic until about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday. Cal Fire and Watsonville Fire also responded.
Authorities said there do not appear to be witnesses of the crash.
