City News Service reports an officer at the scene said it appeared one car had broadsided the other. Grant says one person apparently had an open leg fracture and the other had what appeared to be major injuries. A high speed crash left one person dead and two others sought by police in Santa Ana Monday morning. North Bristol Street was closed in both directions at West 1st Street during the investigation. It was unclear how many people were in each car at the time of the crash, according to Grant. Two cars were involved in the crash that occurred about 2 a.m. near the intersection of North Bristol Street and West 1st Street, Sgt. The cars were likely traveling at a high rate of speed, according to authorities at the scene.

Authorities said the driver of the Mustang, later identified as 61-year-old Mitchell Viturno, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger or passengers in the Mercedes-Benz fled the scene on foot with injuries, investigators said.
