Passengers stuck on Amtrak train for hours after fatal collision

Santa Ana police told KABC-TV that the collision occurred at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the railroad crossing south of East McFadden Avenue. The train operator did not realize it had struck anyone and continued to its Irvine station, where it stopped. 
 
Meanwhile, the woman died at the scene. Her death was not believed to be a suicide, police said. The train was halted in Irvine until about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The Amtrak Police Department responded and an initial investigation revealed that the woman was walking along the southbound lanes of the railroad tracks when she was struck, Bertagna said.
