Daniel Lopez Jr., 18, and Michael Vargas, 29, killed when motorcycle strikes pickup at high speed on Simpson Road in San Jacinto, California
SAN JACINTO: Teen killed days before graduation in Winchester crash
Three days before the San Jacinto teen was supposed to receive his diploma, Lopez was killed when the truck he was riding in collided with a motorcycle in Winchester.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Daniel Lopez Jr. was one of six people in a pickup that was pulling out of a private driveway onto Simpson Road east of Patterson Avenue at the same time that Michael Vargas was driving down Simpson Road in a 2012 Suzuki GSXR. Witnesses say Vargas was driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The motorcycle struck the left rear door of the pickup, where Lopez was sitting, with such force that the pickup rolled over. Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lopez was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he later died. The other passengers in the pickup were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
