Authorities said that a 19-year-old driver was in a Chrysler 300M traveling westbound on Central Avenue when he struck the woman.
82-YEAR-OLD STRUCK AND KILLED IN ORANGEVALE
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman, later identified as 82-year-old Sara J. Gutshall, was struck while crossing Central Avenue, east of Trajan Drive Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The elderly woman was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital with severe head and internal injuries and was later pronounced dead. The 19-year-old driver claims not to have seen the woman as the sun was setting and the woman was not in a marked cross walk. Police believe the driver was going the speed limit and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
