Sheriff's officials say two brothers were aboard a small plane that crashed in Northern California over the weekend, killing one of them and injuring the other. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the brother who died as 52-year-old Perry Nieland and the injured brother as 55-year-old Richard Nieland, both of San Jose. The brothers were flying in a Starduster biplane en route to the Swansboro Country Airport in Placerville on Saturday night. The Sacramento Bee reports that they circled the airport once and then disappeared. Perry Nieland was pronounced dead when deputies arrived at the scene. His brother was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating what caused the crash.
