The California Highway Patrol is seeking information on a driver who crossed over into an oncoming lane on a country road near Winters and killed a bicyclist engaged in a time trial.

An Alamo man riding his bicycle was fatally struck by a car in Solano County near the border to Yolo County on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 71-year-old man, later identified as Dan Taylor, was bicycling east on Putah Creek Road about one mile east of Interstate Highway 505 shortly before 5 p.m., the CHP said.
He was riding a timed interval race through a long stretch of road that runs between orchards in the area, according to the CHP.
A vehicle traveling west towards the bicyclist at speeds between 55 and 60 mph for unknown reasons crossed to the eastbound lane, the CHP said.
The bicyclist was struck by the car and propelled over the vehicle before landing onto dirt at an adjacent orchard, according to the CHP.
He died from multiple internal and head injuries, the CHP said.
The vehicle continued traveling into the orchard almost striking a tree then went west towards Winters, according to the CHP.
Evidence collected from the scene indicates the car is light in color, the CHP said.
