A woman walking in a lane of Highway 99 in south Yuba City was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning.

One lane of the highway was closed during the investigation, but has since reopened.

A CHP news release said it is not known why the woman was in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle told officers he did not see the woman until the collision.
A woman who has yet to be identified was walking in a lane of Highway 99 for unknown reasons at about 3:00 a.m. That was when a northbound vehicle struck and killed her; the driver claims he could not see the pedestrian until it was too late.
