Hit-and-run suspect arrested in Carlsbad

A 24-year-old Carlsbad man was arrested on hit-and-run and other charges after he allegedly crashed a car near Chestnut Avenue and Spanish Way, knocked over a power pole and drove off early Saturday morning, police said.

Police said Oscar Pereyra was arrested about an hour and a half later at a house along Park Drive near Monroe Street.

The accident occurred about 6:10 a.m., when Pereyra is accused of slamming into a retaining wall and cutting power to about four houses in the neighborhood.

Police said a crew from San Diego Gas and Electric worked most of the day to repair the damage. The street had to be closed during the repairs.

Pereyra was booked into jail on charges of drunken driving, hit and run and possession of narcotics.
