A driver in a stolen car who police said struck and killed a bicyclist Monday night in Chula Vista was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, a police official said.

A bicyclist who was killed in a crash in Chula Vista has been identified by police.

A driver in a stolen car who police said struck and killed a bicyclist Monday night in Chula Vista was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, a police official said.

The collision was reported about 5 p.m. on East J Street, near Arthur Avenue. An investigation is under way, and police advised motorists to avoid the area for the next five hours.

The driver veered into an oncoming lane and fatally struck a 44-year-old bicyclist, later identified as David Voigt, a Chula Vista police Capt. said. The driver was not being pursued by police at the time, the captain said.

The driver, later identified as Michael Reyes, 29, exhibited signs of being under the influence and was taken into custody, police said.

The car had been reported stolen earlier Monday in National City, the captain said.

The suspected admitted to police being involved with earlier vehicle burglaries, Turner said.
