Woman killed in Old Hwy 395 crash.
A 60-year-old Escondido woman was killed and two other women were injured in a crash on Old Highway 395 on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. just north of Deer Springs Road, a CHP Officer said.
The woman was driving a black 2002 Honda south on Old Highway 395 when, for an unknown reason, the car hit a curb on the passenger’s side, he said.
The Honda spun into the path of an oncoming 2013 Cadillac SRX headed north on the highway, also known as Champagne Boulevard, police said.
The Cadillac broadsided the driver’s side of the Honda, killing the Honda driver instantly, he said. The crash was initially reported to have been a head-on collision.
A 70-year-old woman was driving the Cadillac, with her 98-year-old mother as her passenger. Both women were taken to Palomar Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Bettencourt said.
The agency issued a traffic alert about 3:15 p.m. for Old Highway 395, which was blocked by the crash and by emergency responders.
