Child, man die in fiery crash despite frantic rescue attempt

A Good Samaritan tried to pull the man and toddler from a burning vehicle in an area just outside Escondido Thursday, but was only able to get the child out, California Highway Patrol officer said.

A 62-year-old man from Escondido stopped and attempted to get the 37-year-old driver, identified as by San Diego Medical Examiner as Arthur Walker, out of the vehicle.
