An elderly man was fatally struck by a car Monday morning in National City and a 57-year-old parolee was arrested in connection with the crash, police said.

The fatal accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the 500 block of East Eighth Street.
According to police, the driver drifted off the road, went up onto a sidewalk and hit the 89-year-old. The victim initially survived, but died shortly thereafter at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
The driver, 57-year-old Kevin Moore, stopped about 100 yards away and waited by his car for police. He is facing a vehicular manslaughter charge and was also on parole for a narcotics arrest.
