Four people who were flown to hospitals Wednesday night following a head-on traffic collision on Douglas Drive were in stable condition Thursday, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Oceanside police said. A 21-year-old man driving a Scion southbound on Douglas lost control of the car about 7:30 p.m. and it veered across a median, striking a northbound Nissan Sentra driven by a 40-year-old woman with a 17-year-old female passenger, Traffic Investigator Eric Anderson said Thursday. A 24-year-old man riding a motorcycle was injured when he put the bike down in the street to avoid the collision, Anderson said. Several witnesses told police the Scion may have been involved in a street race with a silver-colored vehicle, but that remains under investigation, Anderson said. Firefighters extricated all three motorists, who had life-threatening injuries, Anderson said. All had been wearing seatbelts, he said.
