One person killed, after a motorcycle rear-ends a car on northbound I-15 near State Route 163 in San Diego.

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a collision on northbound Interstate 15 near state Route 163, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred about 5:50 p.m.

According to the CHP website, a motorist in a silver Acura SUV called authorities and said the motorcylist struck the back of his vehicle. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

A traffic alert is in effect for two to three hours, the CHP said.

Two lanes of the freeway were closed as officers investigated.
