Berkeley: Car hit pedestrian on freeway offramp

BERKELEY -- A pedestrian suffered major injuries Friday after being struck by a car on a freeway off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol said. Friday on the Interstate 80 offramp at Gilman Street when the man walked into the path of the car, officers said. Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call the Oakland CHP office, 510-450-3821. CHP closed the Gilman offramp for an hour. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with major head injuries, according to the CHP. The driver of the Kia was not injured.
